Elf may not be my favorite modern Christmas movie — that’d be Arthur Christmas, of course, as I explained on CBC’s Here and Now the other day — but it’s a fine one, packed with lovely little moments and a Will Ferrell performance that’s madcap without ever tilting into cloying.
