It’s a lovely day in Toronto, so if you’re in town with nothing to do tonight, you should come down to Harbourfront, why not?
This week’s Free Flicks screening is Drew Barrymore’s “Whip It“, a charming and sprightly little picture about the healing powers of women’s roller derby. In addition to being funny and weird, it features a great cast, including Ellen Page, Kristen Wiig, Juliette Lewis and Barrymore herself. The movie starts at 9 pm, but you’ll want to come down around 8:30 at the latest. We’re doing a thing.
Also, “Hope Springs” opens theatrically today. My review will run in tomorrow’s NOW [UPDATE: Linked!], but I’ll save you the trouble: There’s some good stuff rattling around inside, but it really needed a more confident director.
