I’ve filed a couple of longish web Q&As for the NOW site, thanks to our push towards more small-screen coverage.
Right now, you can read my conversation with James Lapine, longtime writing partner of Stephen Sondheim and occasional filmmaker, about Rob Marshall’s movie adaptation of Into the Woods — which I hated, but that wasn’t Lapine’s fault.
And later today, you’ll find a chat with Linda Cardellini about her work in Netflix’ twisty family drama Bloodline — and maybe a little bit about The Thrilling Adventure Hour and Gravity Falls, too.
What, I’m not going to ask her about two of my favorite things? Yeah, sure.
I read an article that said there had been a tribute concert of some sort by Disney for Stephen Sondheim with some past stage performers singing songs from the play. Chip Zien, who was the original Baker on Broadway and played the mysterious stranger/father in a later revival, did a duet with himself of those two characters singing the song No More. The article said that No More was not included in the movie. WTF? It’s the emotional crux of the Baker’s story. One more piece of evidence that whoever put this project together just didn’t understand the play.
If you’ve never seen the play version (seriously, if you haven’t, get the filmed Broadway version rather than the movie, it’s still available, just got it for my daughter for her birthday), here’s Chip Zien singing No More. How, HOW do you cut this? This seems as egregious an example of missing the entire point as turning the wolf from kinda’ creepy into pedowolf.

Oh, no argument here. Rob Marshall is the worst.
Por favor, "culto sagrado por la muerte", joder algunos de los que escriben en este blog han visto muchas pelis de terror.
