“The Host” Rises Again

J'accuse! My latest Sympatico/MSN DVD column is up, once again urging people to see “The Host”.

Look, I know it’s got subtitles. I know it’s got a monster nobody recognizes. But it’s terrific. It’s one of the best movies of the year, and one of the best monster movies ever. If you see it, you will like it.

How hard is that to process? What else are you gonna watch this week, “Cashback”? Don’t make me laugh.

Also, the Onion AV Club’s Week Of “Simpsons” continues here and here. Enjoy.

  1. I really want to see The Host, but have you read Entertainment Weekly’s review of the DVD? They liked the movie, but their biggest complaint is that the creature isn’t actually scary. Cool looking, but not frightening.

Judging from the clips I’ve seen of the movie, I would have to agree with them, but I’ll reserve final judgment until I’ve watched the whole film.

  2. Norm, you were one of the people who conned me into seeing this theatrically. I really wanted to like it, but it just did not live up to your hype. 🙂

On the other hand, thank you for mentioning Nicholson Baker in your column’s blurb about “Cashback”. Upon hearing the plot synopsis, his name and need to call a lawyer came immediately to mind.
