Thanks for What, Exactly?

It’s Thanksgiving in the US tomorrow, and you know what that means — holiday weekend release schedule!  Look what’s in theatres now!

Life of Pi: Ang Lee turns Yann Martel’s tricky novel into a balls-out digital fantasia, which is mostly a good idea.

Red Dawn: MGM’s long-delayed remake of John Milius’ batshit right-wing revenge fantasy finally lands in theatres, and … well, Rad‘s nonplussed reaction pretty much sums up everything I’ve been hearing.

Rise of the Guardians: DreamWorks’ big holiday CG adventure feels like it’s playing catch-up with ideas expressed far more artfully (and entertainingly) last year in Hop and Arthur Christmas, and dear christ is it busy. I did like the Yeti (Yetis?), though.

Silver Linings Playbook: Look, movie, you don’t like me and I don’t like you. But you won the TIFF People’s Choice award so everyone has to pretend you’re an Oscar shoo-in. Worked great for Bella, didn’t it?

There, that’s everything. Except for all the stuff that opens Friday. Don’t worry, I’m on it.
