Persons Unknown

This week on Someone Else’s Movie, Trench 11 writer-director Leo Scherman joins me for a very pleasant conversation about a very unpleasant movie: George Sluizer’s 1988 thriller The Vanishing.

It’s a calm, almost placid study in nerve-shredding anxiety and suspense, which of  course sounds like an impossible conceptual contradiction. But if you’re familiar with the movie, you know that’s its entire point … and the more you think about it, the more it burrows under your skin.
