You may know John Ross Bowie from his recurring role on The Big Bang Theory, or as Minnie Driver’s husband on Speechless, or from any of a dozen other gigs. (I saw him onstage in Los Angeles at the Thrilling Adventure Hour Christmas special that time, which was pretty cool.)
He’s also written a pretty great book about Michael Lehmann’s Heathers, so when I booked him for an episode of Someone Else’s Movie I figured that’s what we’d be talking about. But I was wrong — John wanted to do Topsy-Turvy, Mike Leigh’s 1999 drama about the making of The Mikado, as he saw an interesting parallel between Leigh’s film and the play he’s written, Four Chords and a Gun, which is playing down at Harbourfront’s Fleck Dance Theatre through the end of the month. And I was more than happy to hear him out.
