It’s Oscar Time!

Release the hounds… and I’m going to be live-blogging the ceremony over at NOW, so drop by if you’re curious.

I have no idea how it’s going to go — this is the first time either the site or I have ever done this — but at least it’ll give me something to do during the endless hours of montages and puffery.

Join us, won’t you? Maybe during the musical numbers?

  1. I just read your online Oscars colour commentary (not in ‘real time’ – so would that be in ‘fake time’?). You made a few mentions of an office pool. Since you’ve likely seen (nearly) all nominated films and know film, I’m curious to know how you did. Did you use the approach of selecting who you thought would win, or who you thought should win?

  2. I always try to bet the Academy — and I always end up missing by a mile, because there’s just no way to predict the Oscars perfectly. Who saw Tilda Swinton as the only award for “Michael Clayton”? Who expected three awards for “The Bourne Ultimatum”?

John used to say it was an industry award, and there was no point in trying to guess at the winners because there would always be some petty rivalry or unsung hero about which we’d be entirely ignorant.

He did insist that Best Film Editing was always connected to Best Picture, but that didn’t play out this year, either …
