“It’s not their dough.”

On this week’s episode of Someone Else’s Movie has been steeping, as they say, for a good eight months: I sat down with Megan Abbott in New York over the U.S. Thanksgiving weekend last fall, and have been looking forward to releasing that conversation ever since.

That’s because Megan chose Double Indemnity, a combination of guest and film that’s as good as one can wish from an Edgar-winning author and television writer: Billy Wilder’s genre-defining film noir has all sorts of wonderful little avenues to explore, and we wander through as many of them as time will allow. Putting the episode together this week, I was delighted to find that it’s  as much fun as I remember, balancing serious scholarly insight with the sense of play Wilder brought to his best films.
