Surprise! Superhero Nonsense! wasn’t the only new thing we launched in NOW’s movies section this week; we’re also doing a column that puts the spotlight on the city’s screening series, featuring one programmer and one film every week.

I’m kicking it off with Anthony Oliveira’s very first Dumpster Raccoon event at the Revue Cinema, which will screen Mike Hodges’ Flash Gordon this Saturday night for a presumably heat-crazed crowd of Torontonians eager for — his words, not mine — shiny garbage.

Mind you, I can think of at least one person who would disagree with that.
