It’s Looking Like Chris Hemsworth’s Year

I mean, obviously all the admissions for “Snow White and the Huntsman” were paid by Thor’s fan base. (Maybe they’ll finally figure out he’s also in “The Cabin in the Woods”, and snap it up once it hits disc.)

The fantasy adventure epic pulled in $56.3 million on its first weekend, easily surpassing the $29.3 million earned by last week’s champion, “Men in Black 3”. “The Avengers” held onto third place with $20.3 million … and took third place overall in the top box-office rankings, pulling ahead of “The Dark Knight” sometime last week.

It doesn’t seem likely that “The Avengers” poses a serious threat to the top standing of “Titanic” and “Avatar” — the former is still over $100 million away, and the latter twice that — but who knows? Maybe the people who’ve just discovered Hemsworth as the Huntsman will go back to check him out in Joss Whedon’s picture. Stranger things have happened, after all.
