I feel like I might have used that header before. But that’s weirdly fitting, since The Amazing Spider-Man 2 recycles plenty of stuff from the last movie, and even the previous trilogy.
Not that anyone minded; it enjoyed a $92 million domestic opening weekend, earning another $116 million internationally for a gross-to-date of $369 million. Which will be $400 million sometime this week, and half a billion dollars before the end of the month. (So, yes, Spidey 3 is on the way. But then it has to be, or Sony loses the rights to the character.)
Last week’s big opener The Other Woman earned $14.2 million to take second place, and Heaven Is for Real landed in third with $8.7 million. And Captain America: The Winter Soldier kept right on punching, bringing in $7.8 million to stay just ahead of fifth-place finisher Rio 2, which made $7.6 million.
Really, though, this weekend was all about the web-head. Next weekend, though? Anything’s possible.
