God’s Lonely Man

Not much happening on the movie front this week, except for the Toronto opening of Steve McQueen’s much-buzzed “Shame”. The film isn’t entirely successful, to my mind — my take on it hasn’t really changed since TIFF — but McQueen does some great things within it, and Michael Fassbender is pretty fucking amazing as a man in the thrall of sexual addiction.

I interviewed both men at the festival; you’ll find my chat with Fassbender in this week’s NOW, and my Q&A with McQueen on the paper’s website.

And yes, Fassbender really is that chiseled in person. Not that I found it intimidating or anything.
