The Globe and Mail reports the Revue Cinema — a landmark art-house theater in Toronto’s west end which was shuttered last year when the Festival Cinemas chain closed most of its properties — has been saved by two of its neighbors, who shelled out nearly a million dollars to buy the building.
A few other neighbors, having formed the Revue Film Society, will run it.
It’s not all shiny goodness, though. Torontoist has the background that the Globe neglects to mention: According to a recent e-mail, the society now needs to raise about $60,000 “just to open the doors and get the cinema running”.
Their contribution page is here. Do the right thing, Mookie.
“Do the right thing, Mookie.”
Throw a garbage can through the glass at the Revue’s front door?!?
