The people have spoken, and “Immortals” topped the weekend box-office with $32 million, while that thing where Adam Sandler plays twins placed second with $26 million.

Expect a new spike of interest in this Henry Cavill fellow — he’s playing Superman, have you heard? — now that his movie is a hit. And expect the usual hand-wringing over whether Sandler’s career is finally running out of gas … oh, never mind, it’s already started.

And next year, when Sandler does huge business with a 3D comedy about, I dunno, a Palm Springs dentist who finds a magical gateway to Narnia in the back molar of a crotchety old patient (also played by Sandler), we’ll go through it all over again. And may God have mercy on our souls.
