Well, something had to bring “The Avengers” down. I just wish it could have been something a little better than the half-assed “Men in Black 3“, which slouched into the top spot at the megaplex this weekend with a $55 million gross in the first three days of the Memorial Day long weekend; it’s estimated to reach $70 million when today’s grosses are folded in.
“The Avengers” pulled in $37 million to place second; “Battleship” and “The Dictator” were a distant third and fourth with $10.8 million and $9.6 million, respectively. And “Chernobyl Diaries” came in fifth with $8 million, but since it wasn’t that expensive that’s probably enough to start a conversation about a sequel.
Maybe Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones can get stranded in Pripyat for the next one …
