Back to the Future

Yep, pretty sure that's a sequel out there ...My latest MSN DVD column is up, considering J.J. Abrams’ “Star Trek” reboot in the context of the franchise — and deciding it’s pretty much the best thing since “The Voyage Home”.

I mean, I like “First Contact”, too, but the stuff with Farmer Hoggett inventing warp drive always felt a little hokey. Give me nuclear wessels any day of the week …

  1. I was with you up until the point where you fell into the trap of believing that The Voyage Home was ever a good movie. Admittedly, it’s a common mistake. The movie has an appealing breezy tone and just so desperately *wants* to be liked. But then the profound lapses in basic logic and the tedious “double dumb ass” comic relief kick in.

Honestly, I’d rather watch Star Trek V again. At least with that one, you know you’re getting a bad movie up front. There’s no pretending otherwise.

  2. To be brief, it has to be 2, 11, 8, 6, 4, 7, 9, 10, 3, 1, and 5. Now Galaxy Quest should fit somewhere between 6 and 4, but hey, that’s just me.
