AKA Chloe

Last week’s episode of Someone Else’s Movie considered a film that swooned at the thought of romantic love. This week’s is a little more clear-eyed.

That’s because writer-director Natty Zavitz wanted to talk about Eric Rohmer’s Love in the Afternoon, which has some intriguing parallels to his new drama Acquainted — in that both movies are about people tempted to stray from stable relationships into something new and exciting, even though they know they probably shouldn’t.

It’s a conversation that gets personal in a couple of unexpected ways, and hopefully that makes for a good episode. (I think it does, anyway.) And if you’ve never seen the Rohmer film, it’s streaming on the shiny new Criterion Channel right now.
