There’s so much film content in this week’s NOW that we had to spill it over onto the internet! Can you imagine? You don’t have to! Just start reading!
I talked to Godfrey Reggio and the team behind his fascinating new feature Visitors — composer Philip Glass and editor Jon Kane, and executive producer Steven Soderbergh, who appears in the audio clips accompanying the Reggio interview.
You’ll also find an interview in the paper with Jeff Barnaby, writer-director of the aborginal drama Rhymes for Young Ghouls — and over on the NOW site, you’ll find an exclusive 2,000 word web Q&A with Mark Cousins, whose documentary A Story of Children and Film pops up at the Bloor this weekend.
Also, this week is NOW’s Think Free issue, so I wrote a little something on free movie screenings coming up in town in the next couple of months.
Oh, and I was interviewed by Global News yesterday for this thing about TIFF’s attempt to keep Telluride from bogarting its world premieres. I appear in the last 30 seconds, and look very shiny.
Is Visitors an improvement over Reggio’s last few movies? He’s been on a downslide since Koyaanisqatsi.
It’s very different from the Qatsi trilogy — much calmer and more meditative. Not sure if you’ll like it, but I found it very immersive.
