We’re not quite done with this year’s crop of movies — there are half a dozen opening tomorrow, and one of them might even be The Interview! — but NOW’s year-end double issue is out, and with it my Top Ten Films of 2014.
Boyhood takes pride of place, as some of you might have guessed from my review back in July … but honestly, what can I say? I haven’t seen another film this year that was as moving, as considered, as precious and as utterly remarkable as Richard Linklater’s decade-spanning opus. If The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: Him and Her had made it into theatres this year, it would still have come in second.
