Today’s NOW features my interview with Daniel Radcliffe, star of “The Woman in Black” and incidentally the face of the biggest blockbuster franchise of the past decade. We talked about leaving Harry Potter behind and trying for something a little more grown-up, and how important it is to risk upsetting your audience with an ending appropriate to the story you’re telling. You should read it.
This being a week for ghost stories, I also spoke to Ti West, whose slightly more contemporary creeper “The Innkeepers” — which premiered at the After Dark festival last October — opens tomorrow at the Lightbox.
I’m kind of amazed that we’re getting two slow-burn ghost stories in a single week — and in February, no less, which studios tend to treat as a dumping ground. But trust me, this is a very good week for genre movies.
