Rolling the Dice

No wonder Andy Garcia looks miffedMy latest Sympatico/MSN DVD column is up now, focusing on “Ocean’s Thirteen” and “Shrek the Third”, two summer threequels arriving on disc today.

Bottom line? “Ocean’s Thirteen” is still a great deal of fun, and “Shrek the Third” is still not. Puss-in-Boots still makes me smile, though.

Random observation: “Ocean’s Thirteen” stars five potential Best Actor nominees. Clooney’s in “Michael Clayton“; Pitt’s in “The Assassination of Jesse James by The Coward Robert Ford“; Affleck is in “Gone Baby Gone“, Cheadle’s in “Talk to Me” and Damon’s in “The Bourne Ultimatum“.

Now, I don’t see all five making the final cut — Cheadle’s movie didn’t make enough of an impact theatrically, Damon’s excellent work in “Bourne” is probably too subtle to stand out in that film, and Affleck probably has a better shot as a supporting player in “Jesse James” — but it’s still kinda cool, don’t you think?

John? Any thoughts?
