Every now and then, I’m reminded of how unique my position at NOW is. It came up Sunday evening at the Bloor, when someone on that film-critic panel mentioned the curious place the paper’s film coverage occupies in the city. People pay attention to the stuff we feature, for good or ill.
I wonder how those people will regard this week’s paper, in which the calendar forces me to tackle both the cheerfully grandiose silliness of “Wrath of the Titans” and the horrific reality of the Guantanamo Bay prison facility in Cuba.
Here’s my interview with Thomas Selim Wallner, director of “The Guantanamo Trap” (accompanied by one of his subjects, the Spanish prosecutor Gonzalo Boye) … and here are my considerably less weighty take on the “Wrath” junket and my one-on-one with director Jonathan Liebesman.
Oh, and I took a look at the Canadian Film Fest, which is running at the Royal through the weekend. For the love of god, don’t get suckered into seeing “The Unleashed”, or else I’ve suffered for nothing.
Edward Furlong stars in a new Canadian movie? For some reason, I honestly thought that he was dead, yet IMDb shows him as quite busy lately. I guess I was confusing him with Brad Renfro or something. Huh.
Norm, did Gerry Perry have any info on whether his doc would play in the Boston area again? Thanks.
