Men of Purpose, Men of Vision

It is the way of things. You turn around, there’s ten more movies to write about, and a new Netflix series, and two more film festivals around the corner. I miss sleeping. I was really good at sleeping.

All About Nina: Mary Elizabeth Winstead, self-destructive standup. [Glenn]

American Chaos: Who voted for Trump? Idiots, mostly.

Apostle: Gareth Evans trades action for horror.

Bad Times at the El Royale: Great cast, nice look, bad movie.

Bigger: There’s a Weider brothers movie? Huh.

First Man: Gosling and Chazelle shoot the moon.

Free Solo: Prizewinning TIFF documentary opens, promises vertigo. [Glenn]

Goosebumps 2: No press screening. Eh, I’ll live.

The Hate U Give: Actually opening this week! I checked! [Glenn]

Knuckleball: Starts out great, chokes halfway through.

Oh, and apparently The Haunting of Hill House is really good? I look forward to watching it when I have some free time.

Also, if you’re in town this weekend, maybe come join me down at TIFF on Sunday morning to kick off the new season of Secret Movie Club! We’re  starting at 10:30 am this year because we’re not monsters!
