Is it Wednesday already? Then it must be time for another Free Flicks screening down at Harbourfront.
Tonight, it’s Top Secret!, the movie Jim Abrahams, Jerry Zucker and David Zucker made after Airplane!, and which I would argue — at great length, and probably with spitting — is the funnier and more enduring film of the two.
Featuring an impossibly beautiful Val Kilmer, a supporting cast that includes Omar Sharif, Peter Cushing and Michael Gough and some delightful semi-original songs, it’s the best movie Elvis never made.
We start around 9 pm. You’re coming, right? Great. See you there.
Norm, have you ever listened to the DVD commentary from Abrahams & the Zuckers? They don’t even like this movie. Basically they felt like they had 15 minutes of good material and the rest just doesn’t work.
I completely disagree with them, as it has remained one of my favourite comedies of all time, since I first saw it around age 12. Huge impact on my childhood.
