Have you seen how many movies are opening today? It’s insane, is what it is. So let’s break out the six-word review game, just for the hell of it.
After Tiller: Late-term abortion is never simple. [Susan]
All the Boys Love Mandy Lane: Yes, finally. And it’s held up.
The Dirties: A school shooting comedy, I guess? [John]
15 Reasons to Live: Alan Zweig investigates purpose-driven lives. [Glenn]
Girl Most Likely: Talented people make a terrible film.
Grace Unplugged: Not opening this week after all.
Gravity: Unlike anything you’ve ever seen. Honest.
Haute Cuisine: I Served The President of France. [Susan]
Instructions Not Included: Not opening this week after all.
Muscle Shoals: Doc celebrates the Alabama recording studio. [Rad]
Parkland: American history needn’t be this boring.
Runner, Runner: Hey, remember Paranoia? Same again, basically.
Wadjda: Pertinent Saudi drama investigates sexual inequality. [Susan]
There, wasn’t that fun? It wasn’t? What’s wrong with you?
Where are Grace Unplugged and Instructions Not Included playing? I didn’t see them in my usual run through the cinema chains’ websites (nor do I see them in the Now listings).
Huh. They both appeared on eOne’s press schedule for release this week. Maybe they were bumped at the last minute?
Film distribution seems like a very fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants business.
Even the majors can have trouble securing screens in a given week. eOne just announced that GRACE UNPLUGGED will be opening later this month or possibly even in November.
I saw ATBLML at TIFF. It was pretty maudlin.
