My latest MSN DVD column is up, looking at “The King’s Speech” in the context of Harvey Weinstein’s mad quest for Oscar gold. I mean, I liked the movie, and Colin Firth’s terrific, but it really does represent the apotheosis of Weinstein’s prestige-picture strategy.
It’s like a jigsaw puzzle where all the pieces are made of Oscar bait, and when you put it together you get a really big Oscar. Or four, in this case.
You see where I’m going with this.
Link’s not working.
Nevermind, it’s up now. The delay was actually fortuitous in my case, because I hadn’t finished writing my own King’s Speech review and wanted to hold off reading yours until I was done. (We’re on the same page with it.)
