Well, American Sniper defied expectations (and all logic) again, making $31.85 million over a Super Bowl weekend — a window, it is theorized, when most people are prepping for and watching the game rather than going to the movies.

But unlike the previous record holder, the Hannah Montana / Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds concert movie (which earned $31.1 million in the winter of 2008), Clint Eastwood’s war drama ain’t playing as counterprogramming. Indeed, it’s been embraced by right-wing idiots looking for a reason to shout “USA! USA!” at brown people, which as I understand it is mostly the same audience that makes the Super Bowl a thing. So, um, yeah.

American Sniper will break $250 million domestically sometime this evening.
