Finally, Vin Diesel Catches a Break

RiddickHaving opened virtually unchallenged, David Twohy’s Riddick won the weekend easily, grossing $18.7 million to dethrone Lee Daniels’ The Butler, which dropped to second place with $8.9 million.

After coming in fifth last weeked with an impressive $10.8 million opening, Lionsgate’s Spanish-language comedy earned another $8.1 million this weekend, which was more than enough to jump up two spaces to third place. How often does that happen these days?

We’re the Millers dropped to fourth with $7.9 million, but check out that crazy $123.9 million total — and see how it compares to Disney’s Planes, which came in fifth with $4.3 million for a total gross of $79.3 million. What kind of world are we living in again?
