There IS a good movie, with some actual grown-up themes, to be made about Red Riding Hood and a bunch of other fairy tales. Why has noone adapted the musical Into the Woods as a movie. If Bernadette Peters can’t still do the witch, maybe Bebe Neuwirth?
Neil Jordan’s The Company of Wolves is a pretty good fit for your description. Not a musical, though.
