Paul W.S. Anderson’s latest “Resident Evil” movie topped the box-office with $21.1 million this weekend, but all anyone wants to talk about is “The Master” and its phenomenal per-screen average.
Paul Thomas Anderson’s intimate epic earned nearly $730,000 on just five screens in New York and Los Angeles, demonstrating an even bigger gotta-see value than “Moonrise Kingdom” had back in May.
The film opens in Toronto on Friday at the Varsity — and yes, it’ll be screening in 70mm. Here’s my TIFF capsule; I’m actually seeing it again this morning, away from the frenzy of the festival … and in a 4K digital presentation, because I’m exactly that kind of movie nerd.
Since when has the Varsity had 70mm capability? Are they trucking in the equipment specially for this release?
