Thanks to the long weekend, this week’s DVD column will be going up a little later than usual — but don’t worry, there’s still something I can point you towards today.

That’d be the TIFF 2012 Student Film Showcase, happening tonight at the Lightbox. Ten short films produced at schools across Canada will be screened, with prizes awarded to the best live-action and animated entries.

Who chooses the prizes, you ask? Why, I did, along with far more famous Canadian film folk Lisa Ray and Jason Eisener. So obviously this festival is more important than any other festival happening in the city all month, and you should check it out. Show starts at 7 pm — and no, I don’t know how my fellow judges voted, so I have no idea what the winners are.
