A Portrait of the Critic as a Young Man

Yeah, it's adorable, scarred me for lifeSympatico/MSN has redesigned its Movies section in advance of our super-deluxe coverage of the Toronto film festival; the new, improved section launches today.

To mark the occasion, the writers were encouraged to get personal. Anne wrote a piece about the pivotal interviews she’s conducted … and I came up with a couple thousand words on the movies that shaped me as a critic. It’s not exactly Proustian self-reflection, but I’m happy with the way it turned out.

More screenings today. Gosh, what a surprise.

  1. Nice to see a nod to the Willow theatre. It’s long since gone and I forgot all about it until reading your piece. My memory is of seeing a different Disney film there – ‘Robin Hood’ with my sister. It was a shock when they announced it would close and be torn down, but I guess we all just move on.
