Yay! Warm Bodies won the weekend, bringing in $20 million and trouncing all competition. Which means Jonathan Levine finally has a hit, Nicholas Hoult is every tween girl’s new imaginary boyfriend, and the long national nightmare that was Twilight is finally over.
Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters dropped to second place with just $9.2 million, and Silver Linings Playbook inched into third place with $8.1 million. (The Jessica Chastain train keeps a’going with Mama in fourth and Zero Dark Thirty in fifth.)
The only real surprise was how poorly Bullet to the Head fared; Sylvester Stallone’s Expendables base failed to show, landing the movie in sixth place with a paltry $4.5 million opening.
Poor Walter Hill … even when he does everything right, he gets screwed. I’ll make it up to you one day, buddy, I promise.
