If you happen to be downtown this evening and looking for interesting conversation, you could probably do worse than drop by the Bloor Hot Docs Cinema for the 6:30 pm screening of “For the Love of Movies“.
Directed by the film critic Gerald Peary, it’s a quick sprint through the history of American film criticism, featuring interviews with pretty much every U.S. critic he could wrangle. Canadian critics are not discussed, but tonight’s screening will be followed by a panel discussion in which Peary will be joined by local folk like Jason Anderson, Liam Lacey, Adam Nayman, Kiva Reardon and myself.
So, y’know, that might be fun. Come on down, won’t you? There might even be drinks afterward.
