Are you in Toronto? Do you feel that greatness is lacking in your life?
Well, I can solve that easily: Get yourself down to the Lightbox for tonight’s screening of “Face/Off“, quite possibly the single best movie Nicolas Cage has ever made and the obvious highlight of TIFF’s ongoing retrospective. Here, I’ve proven it with science.
Lightbox. 10 pm. Don’t make him come looking for you.
I could never quite get over the fact that, when restoring him to his original face, the doctors also gave John Travolta his love handles back.
Science!
Both Cage and Travolta looked like they were having a blast in this one pushing their acting styles up a notch when they were supposed to be the other one pretending to be them.
It’s the specific alchemy of their casting that makes the film so great. John Semley explores that in more detail in a very well-considered essay on The AV Club Toronto: http://www.avclub.com/toronto/articles/faceoff-1997,70162/
